Rack and Roll Logo

In 2007, the game was called Rack 'n' Roll. The purpose of the game was to score inner tubes on spider legs. There were thirty-two spider legs arranged in a three tiered circle that made up the rack in the middle of the field. Points were scored by arranging the tubes on the rack to create rows of the tubes. The score of each row increased exponentially with each tube added to it. A row of one was worth 2 points, a row of two worth 4 points, a row of three worth 8 points; on up through 16, 32, 64, 128, and last, the row of eight was worth 256 points.

There were two periods in Rack 'n' Roll, the first was autonomous and second was the Tele-operated. The Tele-operated was where the teams could control their robots and move freely around the field to score points. Along with scoring points, teams could also de-score points by placing a spoiler over the other alliance’s tube. The spoiler negates the tube, breaking up the row it was in.

Right before Tele-operated, there was autonomous. In autonomous, robots had 15 seconds to score the keeper tube in their possession. The bonus for scoring the keeper was that the keeper could not be de-scored in any way. There were once again lights above four of the eight columns of the rack to aid the robots in scoring.

Aim High Logo

In 2006, the game was called Aim High. The purpose of the game was to score points by shooting small balls into one of three goals on your opposing alliance’s side of the field. There were two goals in each corner on the field. These goals were down low with a small ramp connecting them to the ground and each goal was worth one point. The third goal is right in the center of the alliance station wall and above it. Each goal made in the center goal was worth three points.

There two separate periods during the match, one of which has three sub-periods. The first period is autonomous mode. During autonomous mode, the robots can only be controlled by themselves, no human input is allowed. The second period is the Tele-operated period. The Tele-operated period is split into three sub-periods. In one period, one team is on offense and one is on defense, in the second they switch, and the third period is a free-for-all (anyone can score).

In autonomous period, teams could score up to ten balls that they start with at the beginning of the match. The team that scored the most points had the advantage of starting the Tele-operated period on defense. To aid the teams in scoring during autonomous, they can use a camera. The camera was calibrated to “see” the green light on top of each center goal.
