Congratulations Team 340: Finger Lakes Regional 2010 Chairman's Award; Best Web Site Award

Welcome to the Greater Rochester Robotics Team 340 homepage!

Operating out of Churchville-Chili Senior High School, we are a collection of students from Rochester (NY) Area school districts including the High Schools of: Churchville-Chili, Wheatland-Chili, Aquinas, and Brockport. Although our team works 52 weeks a year on many different projects, each January we take part in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).

FIRST is an organization that was founded by Dean Kamen, the man who invented the Segway , in 1989. Also known as For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, it was created to inspire students to work in the technology and engineering fields. Since it's creation, FIRST has made a positive impact in the lives of students and communities around the globe.

Team 340 was founded in 2000 and has achieved many things with the assistance of many mentors and people throughout the community. We are currently working on our robot for the FRC competition Breakaway.

Team 340 won the Chairman’s Award at the Finger Lakes Regional Competition again this year.  An unbelievable 5 of 6 at FLR.  You have really put yourselves in elite company.  I am very proud of our team and the hard work and dedication put forth by our promotions team.

National Anthem at FLR

Hey everyone! Just thought that I should share that Lydia, Christa, Juliana and I will be singing the National Anthem one of the days at FLR (hopefully Friday!) So make sure you all sing loudly too to help us show support for our country and how great 340 is.

Thanks!

Forms for Finger Lakes Regional

Each student team member will need to download, fill out, and return a Field Trip Permission Slip to attend the regional compeition.  I also need a FIRST Consent and Release Form specifically for the regional from every team member.  You do not need to fill one out if you completed the online Consent and Release Form.  These are due to Mr.

Check Presentation to Golisano

Golisano Big Check

We recently visited the Golisano Children's Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center to demo our robot and also present the check for all the funds we collected. We also delivered books and assorted legos for the children's use.

THE CRATE!

Ok, so after many hours of writing and editing chairman's, the marketing team (i.e. Juliana and I) decided we needed a break and so took it upon ourselves to create the design for painting the crate. Well, it has been finished!!!

Tiger bunny, Me and Becca w.

Today, on Saturday the 13, in Febuary, I was with Becca W helping her with the site by looking at it and keeping her company.  Well, she decided to put the tiger bunny on the site by making the tiger bunny a button and making facts called tiger bunny facts about the team.  One so far is we have a small tiger and tiger bunny statue in our tech wing, and one of the members painted it.

The Rookie Programming Experience

This is my first year on the team, and I've had a lot of fun learning how to program. When I was writing my first real code, I connected to the robot and it wouldn't run. After 20 minutes of trying to figure out what was wrong in the code, John Lawniczak helped me realize the exclamation point that was staring me in the face.

Understanding engineers

Take One

To the optimist, the glass is half full.
To the pessimist, the glass is half empty.
To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Take Two

A priest, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers.
The engineer fumed, "What's with those guys? We've been waiting 15 minutes!"
The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such inept golfers!"

Application Fee Waiver at RIT

Do we have any Seniors applying to RIT?  I've talked to the alumni office, and they have approved me to be able to offer a couple of admission fee waivers to FIRST students every year.  This will waive the $50 application fee.

The deadline for the waiver was Feb 1st, but I'm trying to get an extension.  If anyone is applying to RIT, please let me know right away!

Thanks!

Kate
